Renewal Of Marriage Vows

Marriage Encounter Online - Marriage MansionBRAD

Greetings! We’re Brad and Carly. We were with you in the Meditation Chapel. We’re glad to see you again. We’ve done several of the Guide Couple presentations but we like this one the best. It’s like being a professor who now gets to officiate at his students' graduation. He can be proud of his students' accomplishments.

Marriage is such a private affair between a man and woman. But it also has public/social aspects. As married couples we are called to witness to God’s love for all people by our love for each other. Society’s strength is found in the strength of our marriages.

With that in mind, you may want to invite family and friends to join you in the renewal of your marriage vows. We think it is appropriate for us to meet here in the Grand Wedding Foyer. It is the most public/social room in the Marriage Mansion. It all started here.

What we are asking you to do is to sit close to each other. Then read and reflect with each other on Scripture, Corinthians, Chapter 13

”Now I will show you the way that surpasses all the others. If I speak with human tongues and angelic as well, but have not love, I am a noisy gong, a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and, with full knowledge, comprehend all mysteries, if I have faith great enough to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give everything I have to feed the poor and hand over my body to the burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

“Love is patient; love is kind. Love is not jealous, it does not put on airs, it is not snobbish. Love is never rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not prone to anger: neither does it brood over injuries. Love does not rejoice in what is wrong, but rejoices with the truth. There is no limit to love’s forbearance, to its trust, its hope, its power to endure.

Love never fails. Prophecies will cease; tongues will be silence, knowledge will pass away. Our knowledge is imperfect and our prophesying is imperfect. When the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I used to talk like a child, think like a child, reason like a child. When I became a man I put childish ways aside. Now we see indistinctly, as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.

My knowledge is imperfect now; then I shall know even as I am known. There are in the end three things that last: faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love.

Try to dig deep and comprehend the mind of St. Paul, the true meaning of his beautiful letter to the faithful in Corinth. Then we would ask you to hug each other and let the message, as you heard it, sink in. What is its meaning for you? Do you show this kind of love to each other?

Remember the promise of God the Father: “When you bless them, I myself will come down from Heaven, and I myself will bless them, and they will be blessed!” (Num 6:27) Realize the power you have to bless.

We invite you now to pray – not with faith in yourself, but faith in the promise of God – that He will bless us as we bless each other. Take turns reading the blessing and following the instructions.

Blessing Each Other

I bless your mind, signing your forehead with a sign of Christ’s love, the sign of the cross, and pray that you might always know the mind and will of God.

I bless your eyes with the sign of God’s love, that you will be able to see the goodness of God, every day, always.

I bless your ears, that you will always hear and believe the promise of God’s love for us.

I bless your lips, that they might always speak words that are pleasing to God.

I bless your hands, that they may be a channel of God’s healing touch.

I bless your heart, that you will always experience the fullness of God’s love.

When both have received the other’s blessing, take a few moments to whisper thanks to God, and to one another, together.

When you are finished blessing each other, we would like to give you the opportunity to renew your marriage vows. Face each other while you use the form below and the prayer that follows:

I promise you my love for today and tomorrow;
I promise you as much happiness as I can give:
I promise not to doubt or mistrust you,
But to grow and add to your life of content ...
I promise never to try to change you,
But will accept the changes you make in yourself;
And I will accept your love for me
Without fear of tomorrow, knowing that tomorrow
I'll love you more than I do today.

(We suggest that husbands kiss their brides.)

Keep us, 0 Lord, from pettiness.
Let us be thoughtful in word and deed.
Help us to put away pretense, and face each other in deep trust without fear or self pity.
Help us to guard against fault-finding, and be quick to discover the best in each other and in every situation.
Guard us from ill temper and hasty judgment;
Encourage us to take time for all things, to grow calm, serene, and gentle.
Help us to be generous with kind words and compliments.
Teach us never to ignore, never to hurt, never to take each other for granted.
Engrave charity and compassion in our hearts. Amen.

Congratulations from all of us here at the Marriage Mansion. It’s been a pleasure and a gift serving you.

Well, it’s about time for you to leave us, so let’s go over to the Motor Car Room. Jarrett and Luanne will give you information that will be very helpful to you for the journey ahead.
